The 2021 Dürnsteiner Riesling Ried Kellerberg opens with a deep, intense and coolish nose with notes of wet black rocks, Timut pepper berries, black tea leaves and herbs intertwining with concentrated and ripe white-stone and passion fruit aromas. On the palate, this is a rich and concentrated, tightly woven and dense, round and elegant Kellerberg that stopped fermenting at the end of January with seven grams per liter of residual sugar. Still a tiny bit too much for me, but in the long term, this is a terrific Kellerberg. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in September 2022. - Stephan Reinhardt
The 2021 Dürnsteiner Riesling Ried Kellerberg from FX Pichler opens with a deep, intense and cool nose: wet black rocks, Timut pepper berries, black tea leaves and herbs intertwine with concentrated, ripe white‑stone and passion‑fruit aromas. On the palate it is rich and concentrated, tightly woven and dense yet round and elegant, having stopped fermentation with around 7 g/L of residual sugar, which will integrate further with time. The 2021 vintage at FX Pichler delivered “insane ripeness” combined with high extract and naturally high acidity, with no malolactic or acid correction, yielding leaner, fresh, highly structured wines. Meticulous hand‑harvesting, cool handling of the fruit and slow fermentations have produced a Kellerberg that is precise, complex and built for long ageing.
